Lucy Siegle to chair at RECOUP Plastics Recycling Conference 2017
Cross-sector recycling organisation, RECOUP, has announced that its 2017 Conference will be held at the Kingsgate Conference Centre in Peterborough on Thursday, 28 September 2017.
Lucy Siegle, environmental journalist and broadcaster - who is a regular contributor to The Guardian and the BBC’s The One Show - will be presenting and chairing the morning session.
Siegle said: “It's a real privilege for me to be part of the RECOUP Conference in September. After all, this is a time of real possibility and innovation in terms of changing how we manufacture, consume and think about plastics in a way that can revolutionise the environmental outcome. The question is no longer, how can we be less bad? But how best can we activate serious change?”

A choice of afternoon break-out sessions has been included for the first time to allow for targeted presentations with session titles such as 'Designing for recyclability – Rising to the challenge', 'Kerbside collections – Facing the future', and 'Plastics recycling – Closing the loop'.
RECOUP has also announced that the last session of the day is to be chaired by Sky News and is entitled “Turning the tide – Changing perceptions” with vigorous and spirited debate promised. The session will also include contributions from Derek Robertson, CEO, Keep Scotland Beautiful; Phil Downing, research director, at Icaro Consulting.
RECOUP, CEO, Stuart Foster, said: "Extensive media coverage in recent months is shining a spotlight on the need for change, but often doesn’t highlight the complexities and challenges, or the wide range of activities already underway. In our role as value chain co-ordinators, RECOUP strives to ensure plastics has a successful future as a sustainable and recyclable resource and the conference provides a valuable vehicle to discuss the issues, and more importantly the solutions.”
Headline sponsorship has been secured from RPC Bpi Recycled Products. Eurokey, Aura Soma, and the BPF and Plastics Europe in association with PIRAP have also provided sponsorship support.
