Biffa acquires SWRNewstar for £25.8m

SWRNewstar generated revenues of £40.1m last year

Biffa has acquired Specialist Waste Recycling (SWRNewstar) for £25.8m.

The business, which generated revenues of £40.1m at year ending December 2018, was sold by a consortium of investors including Angus MacDonald OBE.

SWRNewstar’s business model provides waste and recycling services on a national basis, with the physical delivery provided by subtractors.

Biffa currently services around 11% of SWRNewstar’s customers.

Around 90 people are currently employed by the company.

Michael Topham, Biffa CEO, said: "The acquisition of SWRNewstar represents a compelling opportunity for Biffa and provides further evidence of our ability to identify and execute cash flow enhancing and earnings accretive acquisitions.
