The Environment Agency (EA) closed down three illegal waste sites per day between the months of April and July this year, a crowd heard at RWM.

Chair of the EA Emma Howard Boyd delivered a keynote speech to RWM visitors on the organisation’s vision for waste management and the prevention of waste crime.

Howard Boyd encouraged all businesses to come together to carry on being responsible with waste management and tackle waste crime.

She said: “I have visited communities which have been overshadowed by waste crime. 96% of waste management companies are well managed, but unfortunately some think the rules don’t apply to them.

“The EA does not shy away from its responsibilities and we are using intelligence to crack down on this activity.”
