ERP has collected 3 million tonnes of WEEE since 2002

The European Recycling Platform (ERP) has collected and treated more than 3 million tonnes of WEEE across Europe since its foundation in 2002.

The number is the same amount of WEEE generated by the European Union in one year.

In 2021, global production of WEEE will reach 52 million tonnes, according to Global E-Waste Monitor report.

This will then contaminate soil and groundwater, causing huge impacts on the environment and a loss of valuable resources.

Umberto Raiteri, CEO of ERP, said: “Treating 3 million tonnes of WEEE shows that ERP has contributed significantly to the EU circular economy and proves that extended producer responsibility in a competitive environment brings huge benefits for the environment at reasonable cost to producers.
