Waste is moved from Camden Market to Powerday's MRF at Old Oak Sidings

Powerday and iRecycle have teamed up to create one of the UK’s first regular commercial waste collection services on water.

The partnership follows a trial moving waste from Camden Market to Powerday’s MRF at Old Oak Sidings on a barge.

Material is then processed, with recycled materials recovered and any residual materials turned into a renewable fuel and supplied to Energy from Waste plants.

By using barges rather than RCVs, Powerday says clients can reduce their CO2 emissions by cutting down the number of vehicles on the road and avoid rising fuel costs.

Simon Little, Powerday sales and marketing director, said: “London prides itself on setting clear direction on emissions, carbon reductions, and utilising waste as a resource so this new service combines all these elements of best practice.

“I hope that, with this initiative for commercial waste, contractors generating construction waste will also buy into this method.”
