Two of Biffa’s refuse crew in the Forest of Dean have been hailed as heroes after helping an 80-year-old woman who had fallen in the snow last December.

Julia Grant-Duff was found by driver Dave Edmunds and loader Callum Mudway while on their round after she slipped on ice.

They contacted emergency services and redirected traffic for over two hours until the air ambulance arrived.

Grant-Duff suffered a broken hip but is now recovering well from her injury.

She said: “I am so grateful for the care and attention shown by the Biffa crew and can’t thank them enough.

"I was in a lot of pain, in shock from the fall and extreme cold but Dave and Callum stayed with me, keeping me warm with their jackets and fleeces until the ambulance arrived.”
