Epping Forest District Council has launched a pilot recycling scheme to improve recycling rates in flats.

Around 1,600 properties across 100 blocks of flats will be able to participate in the scheme, which allows resident to earn ‘Green Points’ by recycling more, reporting what they’re recycling, using a recycling centre and reporting fly tipping.

Every month, the six residents who have earned the most Green Points will win a £25 voucher for either Marks & Spencer, iTunes, Love2shop, local leisure centres, or they can choose to donate to charity.

Ran by recycling reward scheme provider Local Green Points, the programme will also support four charities local to the area, donating £1,750 in the first year.

Cllr Will Breare-Hall, environment portfolio holder at Epping Forest District Council, said: “We know that recycling rates in flats are below where they should be.

“We hope that it will encourage residents to do as much as they can so we can increase recycling rates across flats in the district and improve the quality of recycling collected.”
