The Eden Project in Cornwall

Popular visitor site The Eden Project has become the UK’s first attraction to offer a closed-loop system for beverage cups.

Disposable beverage cups will now be collected and recycled by the Simply Cups scheme, before being sold in The Eden Project’s gift shop.

They will be turned into a NextCupCycle polymer, which is then moulded by Cornish product designers ashortwalk to become a range of products including reusable cups, stationery and gift items.

Gordon Seabright, chief executive of the Eden Project, said: “This is an important milestone for us in terms of our sustainability and of our key objectives is to foster a closed-loop economy.

“We hope that being able to demonstrate this with the help of Simply Cups will encourage other like-minded organisations in our community as well as visitor attractions in other parts of the UK.”

Simply Cups is a partnership between Closed Loop Environmental Solutions and Simply Waste Solutions.
