Leicester-based waste management specialist Bakers Waste has unveiled a scheme in partnership with Leicester South Food Bank to encourage local residents to recycle food waste.

""We firmly believe in the importance of ensuring the food waste we collect is dealt with in the correct manner. All of the food waste we currently collect is eventually recycled," said a company spokesperson. "Working with Leicester South Food Bank will instil an entirely new approach to our aim of putting good use to all food that is wasted."

For every food bin Bakers Waste lifts between 1 February and 30 April, the waste specialist said it will donate 10p to Leicester South Food Bank.

Bakers Waste also said that alongside the on-going 10p per food bin donations, they are offering residents the chance to get involved by submitting a photo of themselves donating food to Leicester South Food Bank or with an empty plate.

"Once we have 100 photos, we’ll donate a further £100 on residents' behalf," continued the company spokesperson.
