John Woodruff joins Ricardo Energy and Environment
Ricardo Energy and Environment, a specialist in the fields of waste management and resource efficiency, has strengthened its team with the appointment of John Woodruff who will take on a new senior role within the practice, focusing on local authority options appraisal, benchmarking and procurement.
With 30 years’ experience in the waste industry, in both the private and public sector, Woodruff is reported to bring a comprehensive understanding of the wider waste landscape from an experienced practical and operational perspective. Having launched the first kerbside recycling schemes in Kent back in the 1990s while working for the private sector, he has been based at Bromley Council for the last 17 years, where, as their head of service, he was redesigning the waste collection and treatment services to reduce landfill and increase recycling rates to over 50%. According to Ricardo Energy and Environment, Woodruff's hands-on experience will be invaluable in helping Ricardo’s local authority clients when assessing potential service changes and alternative delivery models.
Woodruff is well known in the industry, being a previous chair of the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers (NAWDO), and a regular presence on government-sponsored support programmes, regional networks, and other stakeholder groups. Most recently he sat on the Defra/WRAP harmonisation and consistency working group and the EU Circular Economy Package stakeholder group.
This is said to have helped keep him fully abreast of the planned direction of travel of policy, regulation and implementation in the UK, and the drivers for change emanating from both local and central government.
Dr Adam Read, Ricardo Energy & Environment’s practice director for resource efficiency and waste management, added: “John’s wealth of experience and industry knowledge makes him a key addition to the team at this time when local authorities are looking to experienced consultants to help guide them through the difficult decisions arising out of BREXIT, austerity, and consumer demand. I have known John for a long time, and have seen how his experience can benefit those around him through the working groups he has sat on and his role through NAWDO.”
