Waste and recycling brokerage, UKWSL, has appointed Max Kanda as managing director from 1 April 2017.

Kanda has been with UKWSL for over five years, most recently in the capacity of director of corporate affairs. Before joining UKWSL, he held several senior positions at companies within the waste and recycling industry including SITA UK, Biffa & Greenstar.

Under the new structure the company’s founders Garry Johnson and Chris Giscombe will assume the roles of chairmen in the organisation. A new senior management board to support Kanda will be announced in due course.

UKWSL chairman, Chris Giscombe, said: “Garry and I have worked closely with Max to set out a five-year strategy taking us through to 2021 and although the targets set are very challenging we are confident that under Max’s leadership that there are attainable.

"We feel the time is right for us to take on a new role focusing on setting the style, tone and direction of the business and have empowered Max and his senior management team to spearhead the running of the business and delivery of our strategy," added Giscombe.
